PaddleboardCurrent and rapids close to the launch make this an advanced-only SUP put-inFrissell is one of the plainest launches on the upper McKenzie, and paddlers know it mostly by reputation: it’s the standard put-in for a long, lively stretch of continuous Class II to II+ whitewater that runs roughly 17.7 river miles down to the Finn Rock take-out, with Bruckart Boat Launch splitting the run about in half verify. There’s no ramp to speak of, no restroom, and no fee — just a gravel bank where rafts and kayaks slide into current that doesn’t let up for long.
It’s a working launch for guides and experienced paddlers more than a casual stop — come ready to be on moving water almost immediately.
More detail

Facilities & accessibility +
- Gravel launch area only
No restroom, no potable water, and no fee are documented for this site. Bring what you need and pack everything back out.
River conditions & hazards +
This is continuous, read-and-run Class II to II+ water from the moment you launch, and it stays that way for miles — there’s little flat water to regroup in. At higher flows, waves here get big enough to flip boaters used to easier water, and the powerful eddies along the rock walls demand attention flow threshold. Wood is a documented, changing hazard on this exact stretch, so check current conditions with a local outfitter or the Ranger District before you commit. The water is glacially cold year-round; dress and gear for an unplanned swim.
Conditions here can change with a single storm or a fallen tree — check these live sources before you head out:
