Last week to ride without cars. After June 18th it’s a beautiful drive. Gotta drive and got to the top of Dee Wright Observatory! Don’t forget to stop and hike Proxy Falls - so worth it!

Oregon Department of Transportation
Work to repair OR 242, Old McKenzie Highway continues following the devastating effects of last year's #MilliFire. The highway will open to motorists June 18th, however expect a very different landscape. Springtime recreationalists (bikes and peds) please note, when the road is closed, signs are posted because heavy equipment is present and it is dangerous to be in the area. If signs are not present the road is available but at your own risk. Significant fire damage is still present.

We’re happy to announce we’ve received special funding from the regional office to cover a portion of the costs to clear the landslide on Forest Service Road 19 (Aufderheide Drive)!

Willamette National Forest engineers expect crews to begin preliminary work in the next few weeks. There will be two phases required to remove the nearly 8,000 cubic yards - or 800 dump truck loads - of debris from the road. Completion of both phases is expected to take several months.

The road and access to Terwilliger (also known as Cougar) Hot Springs as well as Cougar Crossing Campground and Day Use Area remains blocked. While Aufderheide Drive can be reached from Highway 58, the road is not maintained for winter driving and sections are not suitable for vehicle travel due to packed snow and ice. There is no recommended route to safely reach the hot springs at this time.
