Bruce’s Bike Ride over the McKenzie Pass

“Friday morning, I finished my little adventure by riding up McKenzie Pass.
I fueled up at the awesome Sisters Coffee shop and rode out of town just as the sun was warming up the ground, releasing the scent of the pine trees.”

“Again, all to myself past the gate closing off the pass to Cars for the next 11 miles.”

McKenzie Pass is Closed to Cars until mid June each year.

Lava flows at the top of the pass have created a unique and dramatic landscape.

Past lava flows have left behind a spectacular sea of rock.

“I enjoyed the long downhill ride back to town reflecting on my trip and how satisfying it all was.

I was refreshed and tired and ready to get home.” – Read Bruce’s full post here: BikeForums.net

Recommendations:

This is a truly amazing ride.  We recommend staying at a lodge on the McKenzie River side and taking a shuttle in the morning to start the ride in Sisters, then ride back to your lodge – or your car.  (There is less climbing when you start from Sisters.)  Hard core riders may want to start in Blue River or McKenzie Bridge and ride to sisters and back again – but that’s a pretty big ride.  After the ride, you may enjoy a cold beer and a relaxing soak at a nearby Hot Springs – such as Terwilliger Hot Springs.

McKenzie Pass Shuttle Service:

Shuttles are available from the McKenzie River side.  McKenzie River Mountain Resort runs a daily shuttle by appointment.  Horse Creek Lodge also provides shuttles.
